The outdoor Cailler chocolate game
A pioneer in the fields
Seventh stop: Place Alexandre Cailler
Narrator:
In the company of his guest, Federal Councilor Camille Decoppet, Alexandre Cailler is on his way back to the factory. He likes to walk across the lush green meadows where the cows graze peacefully, but first of all he wants to show him the view, from the village, looking out over the site where the factory is located.
The square where we’re now, does not have a name in 1912 yet, but it is from there that they observed the site.
Alexandre Cailler:
What a sight, isn't it dear Federal Councilor? From here we can see the entire factory. We can see the river and the dam behind it, and the new railway line which goes down from the village and arrives on the site on the right. You can see the great halls housing the conches where the chocolate mass is made, and right next to that is the tinsmith where our moulds and tin cans are made, as well as the printing press for our packaging.
You can see …our offices, in the middle, with the laboratory. That is where our innovations were born: Crémant in 1899, Dessert in 1903, Femina in 1907 and the famous Cailler Branche. I am certain that in the future we will still be innovating!
You know, we work hard for it every day. Sometimes it’s the details that make all the difference. For our milk chocolate, for example: we have developed a unique manufacturing process and we are the only ones to master. We don’t use powdered milk, but condensed milk: its so much better!
I hope you’re not tired, are you, Monsieur Federal Councilor? Let’s keep on going, the rest is downhill. And when we get there you will be able to sample our chocolates.
